One of the Ancient parishes of the Archdiocese of Bangalore St.Ignatius Church. Begur's History goes back from the 17th century and has recorded baptism registers from the year 1847. We have clear history from the year 1930, when Rev.Fr.Albert Kapple, constructed the church, he used to travel from Doresanipalya to offer mass for 100 families. In 1935, he offered, 2 1/2 acers of land to the convent and the building was completed in the year 1958, and the convent was inaugurated in 1959.
Then the following shepherd's Rev.Fr.Manvel, Rev.Fr.Anthony, Rev.Fr.D'Souza,Rev.Fr.Saldana and Rev.Fr.Benjamin continued.
Rev.Fr.C.Anthappa built a new Church and completed in the year 1960. His grace Arch Bishop Thomas Pothacamury inaugurated the church.
Later the responsibilities were shouldered by Rev.Fr.Nelapathy, Rev.Fr.Galaya, Rev.Fr.Thellapilly, Rev.Fr.Peter,Rev.Fr.Thomas, Rev.Fr.Mudhartha, Rev.Fr.Joseph Nirmal, Rev.Fr.Kanika raj, Rev.Fr.Santiago and at present under the administration of Rev.Fr.C.Moses.
The church has 12,000 people and more than 2000 families.
